Symptoms of anemia typically manifest as general weakness and fatigue; this condition stems from reduced hemoglobin synthesis and, consequently, a diminished oxygen-carrying capacity. Pernicious anemia, in addition to these general symptoms, also presents with more specific signs such as numbness in the hands and feet, pallor of the skin and nails, chest pain, headaches and dizziness, increased heart rate, or cardiac enlargement. These symptoms are a result of the body's inability to produce sufficient red blood cells and can have significant effects on the cardiovascular system and brain activity. Furthermore, the underlying B12 deficiency can lead to various other systemic symptoms by affecting the body's homeostasis.
