Hysterectomy (uterus removal surgery) is performed in various medical situations. The primary reasons include fibroids, uterine cancer, and precancerous lesions. Severe and treatment-resistant uterine bleeding may also necessitate a hysterectomy, even if no other underlying cause is found. Globally, fibroids are the most common reason for hysterectomy. When fibroids do not respond sufficiently to medication, removal of the uterus provides a permanent solution. Furthermore, in severe pathologies such as uterine cancer, or during surgical interventions involving the ovaries or other pelvic organs in patients whose reproductive function has ceased (generally over 45 years of age), the uterus may also be removed.
