Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition characterized by various symptoms affecting the hand and wrist area. Common symptoms include:
* Numbness, tingling, burning, or a pins-and-needles sensation in the hand and fingers (especially the thumb, index, and middle fingers).
* Wrist pain and burning in the palm.
* Loss or reduction of sensation in the fingertips.
* Weakness in the hand, making it difficult to grasp and hold objects.
* Feeling of swelling in the fingers.
These symptoms typically worsen at night, can disrupt sleep patterns, and may wake the individual from sleep. Pain and numbness can increase during activities that strain the hand, such as squeezing, carrying, or cleaning, and may sometimes radiate to the shoulder and neck. In advanced stages of the disease, weakness, atrophy of the thumb muscles, and significant difficulties with gripping movements may occur.
