Smoking does not pose a direct impediment to lip filler procedures. There are no definitive scientific studies indicating that smoking shortens the duration of dermal fillers. However, theoretical perspectives suggest that smoking, by increasing oxidative stress and accelerating premature aging in the skin, and through repetitive lip movements during smoking that increase the metabolic demand of the lip muscles, could potentially lead to earlier degradation of the filler. These potential negative effects should be considered.
