The Carhart notch is an audiometric finding characteristic of otosclerosis. During an audiometry test, it manifests as a distinctive dip in bone conduction thresholds, most notably at 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 Hz. The presence of this specific notched pattern can serve as a significant diagnostic indicator for otosclerosis. Following successful surgical intervention, this audiometric notch typically shows improvement or resolution.
