Penile cancer is a rare malignancy originating in the cells of the penis. The vast majority of cases (approximately 95%) are squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), which begin in the squamous cells of the foreskin or glans. SCC typically grows slowly, and early diagnosis leads to high treatment success rates. Less common types include basal cell carcinomas, sarcomas, melanomas, and urethral carcinomas. Penile cancer is more prevalent in uncircumcised men and is observed more frequently in regions like Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America.
