Maternal tetanus describes tetanus infection developing in the mother during the postpartum period. Neonatal tetanus, on the other hand, is the condition of tetanus observed in infants. Tetanus vaccination administered during pregnancy provides protection for both the mother against maternal tetanus and the baby against neonatal tetanus.
