Osteoarthritis, clinically termed degenerative joint disease, is a condition that can affect all joints in the body. It commonly manifests in the hips, lower back, neck, knees, and finger joints, causing significant restriction in mobility. Specifically, osteoarthritis in the spine can increase the mechanical load on the hips and knees. Furthermore, degeneration in the lumbar spine can precipitate or exacerbate osteoarthritis in the cervical and thoracic regions. When one or more vertebrae in the lower back are affected, the increased stress on adjacent segments can compromise their structural integrity, potentially leading to vertebral slippage (spondylolisthesis) or spinal canal stenosis.
