Different types of tularemia are classified based on the entry point of the infection and the symptoms that emerge. The main types of tularemia are:
* Ulceroglandular Tularemia: This is the most common form of tularemia, characterized by an ulcer on the skin and swelling of lymph nodes near the affected area.
* Glandular Tularemia: Affects only the lymph nodes, without the formation of a skin ulcer.
* Oculoglandular Tularemia: Occurs in the eye as a result of direct contact with infected water or bodily fluids, causing eye irritation and swelling of lymph nodes around the ear.
* Oropharyngeal Tularemia: Develops from consuming contaminated food or water, or bringing infected hands to the mouth. It can lead to a sore throat and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms.
* Pneumonic Tularemia: One of the most serious forms of tularemia. It presents with pneumonia-like symptoms and requires urgent and definitive treatment.
* Typhoidal Tularemia: Characterized by high fever and widespread symptoms affecting many systems of the body, often appearing without localized signs.
