While there isn't a direct link between the PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) period and the likelihood of getting pregnant, the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse is always present. A menstrual cycle typically lasts 28 days (approximately 4 weeks), with the first day of menstrual bleeding marking the beginning of the cycle. Ovulation, the period with the highest probability of conception, usually occurs between days 10 and 18 of the cycle. PMS symptoms, however, typically appear closer to menstruation, towards the end of the cycle (around the 4th week). Although the probability of getting pregnant during this time is lower as it falls outside the ovulation window, the possibility of pregnancy after unprotected intercourse exists at any stage of the menstrual cycle, including during menstruation or the PMS period. Since sperm can survive in the body for several days, the risk of pregnancy should always be considered unless reliable contraception methods are used.
