A patient presenting with von Willebrand disease (vWD) will have their personal and family bleeding history investigated, including symptoms such as unusual bruising. Following this, blood tests will be ordered to assess how the blood clots. These tests will determine the quantity of clotting proteins in the blood and whether these proteins are functioning correctly. Additionally, medications and other factors that could cause or worsen bleeding will be evaluated, as some medications can cause bleeding even in individuals without bleeding disorders.
