In direct composite treatment, following the removal of caries, the dentist places a composite filling in the patient's tooth. Direct composite treatment can be completed in a single appointment, with both caries removal and composite placement occurring at the same time. Indirect composite treatment, however, involves the treatment of relatively deeper caries with medication for at least one week to render them inactive before composite placement. Therefore, indirect composite treatment cannot be completed in a single appointment like direct composite treatment.
