Coronary angioplasty is a procedure to open a diseased artery. A balloon is inserted into the diseased artery. This procedure opens narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, thereby removing the obstruction to blood flow to the heart; the narrowed or blocked area is widened. This procedure is called coronary angioplasty.
